REVIEW: 4   2 comments

Beyonce’s fourth album, surprisingly(?) entitled 4, is one good example of an album that has no direction. It is a mere collection of uninspired songs that doesn’t gel with one another.  Beyonce gets to showcase her singing abilities, but then again, she also showed her oversinging abilities as she tends to oversing majority of the ballads in the album.

Speaking of ballads, her songs were also overproduced and have very horrible lyrics and melody. When you sing songs that has lyrics containing “I don’t know much about algebra, but 1+1 is 2,” you should just lower your expectations. Though there are tracks that show potential, it gets lost in a big shuffle of mess that trumps all the little hope that this album could have possibly shown.

The main problem of this album is that it doesn’t clearly know what it aims to be. Majority of the album contains forgettable fillers, and for a commercial artist like Beyonce, this doesn’t have any radio friendly hits as well to maintain any momentum. This is one solid case of a bland album that makes other pop albums like Teenage Dream, Loud, Bionic, and even Love? sound like musical gems.

Top Tracks: End of Time, Party

Final Grade: D

  1. Doesn’t even look like her. I’m so out of the music scene. So it’s out?
