DAY 17: Your Favorite Drama Film – The Truman Show (Peter Weir, 1998)

One of the most intriguing and original movies I have seen in recent years, Truman Show was a good predecessor to the current reality series obsession we have about observing the life of others 24/7. In this film, Jim Carrey plays the title role whose life was under scrutiny by others ever since he was born. Can you just imagine the amount of attention he received especially during the most crucial moments of his life?

Anyway, my favorite scene here was near the end when he was talking, to the fake sun and/or moon and when he started to realize that he’s been living his whole life on a big TV set. How Carrey failed to grab an Oscar nod for this is beyond ridiculous. The screenplay, direction, the acting, and probably the art direction (which is my favorite) is in top notch form. Definitely one of my all time bests!

  1. I LOVE this movie. I like the fact that it pre-dates the reality TV phenom. What a shame Carrey was snubbed here, it was an excellent performance. But the story was just fantastic. Naghahanap ako ng copy ng movie na ito (vcd/dvd) wala akong makita. I rented this movie sa Video City rin before hehe

  2. I actually can’t remember na when was the first time I saw it. Yep, probably one of my all time faves as well. Hmm, lagi ako nakakakita ng VCD nito sa Odyssey lalo pa’t lagi ng sale ang mga VCDs nila. Baka nagkakasalisi kayo. Haha.
