19th Screen Actors Guild Awards Best Dressed List   2 comments

Hey everybody! The SAG Awards just happened two hours ago, but let’s get this one over and done with. After all, this was the last time this year that both TV and movie stars are honored in the same room. As for the red carpet, there’s a lot of interesting looks this time and as always, lots of colors everywhere. Some have been recycled, some were misfits, but for the most part, here are 16 personalities who were dressed to kill that night.

You can click the photos or open it in new tab to make the photos bigger.

jaimie alexander

16. JAIMIE ALEXANDER in Marc Bouwer

Nurse Jackie’s Jaimie Alexander was sexy and classic in this black Marc Buower creation that highlights her upper body in a flirty and very interesting manner.

idina menzel

Truth be told, it’s not as if Tony winner Idina Menzel needs to impress people with her red carpet appearances. But then again, she just did her homework when she appeared in this red and pink combination that highlights her impressive figure.

jane krakowski

14. JANE KRAKOWSKI in Kaufman Franco

From one Tony winner to another, Jane Krakowski was a sight to be seen in this Kaufman Franco creation that the 30 Rock star described as orangey-sherbet. Yum!

nancy o dell

While it’s the stars that are usually the people you look forward to the most, red carpet interviewers aren’t spared from dressing the part as well. That’s just what Entertainment Tonight‘s Nancy O’Dell did when she wore this aquamarine blue with impressive bead works in it.

keirnan shipka

12. KEIRNAN SHIPKA in Oscar dela Renta

It’s probably the Mad Men effect, but Keirnan Shipka is channeling the classic look in this Oscar dela Renta dress that highlights both her youthful aura and the stylish animal in her.

lea michele

11. LEA MICHELE in Valentino

See, this is the Lea Michele that suits her better. Instead of doing all the trying hard sultry looks that she’s been doing the past few years, the Glee star looks better and more comfortable when she shows her sweetheart side such as this pink Valentino gown she’s wearing.

nina dobrev

10. NINA DOBREV in Elie Saab

Having a body built that most designers would kill to dress, The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev was rocking the part in this pink Elie Saab creation that made her look edgy but cute as well.

viola davis

09. VIOLA DAVIS in Monique Lhuillier

Last year’s Best Actress winner Viola Davis’s presence was clearly a light in the room. Thank to this Monique Lhuillier creation she sported when she presented Daniel Day Lewis the Best Actor trophy.

jessica lange

08. JESSICA LANGE in J. Mendel

Who says you can’t dress the part when you’re already in your 60s? You probably haven’t seen Best Actress nominee Jessica Lange as she strutted in this J. Mendel ensemble that appropriately made her look years younger.

amanda seyfried

07. AMANDA SEYFRIED in Zac Posen

I’ve always thought of Seyfried as a boring red carpet entity. But after nailing this blue Zac Posen creation that she donned just a few hours ago, I need some serious reconsideration.

jennifer garner

06. JENNIFER GARNER in Oscar dela Renta

Despite Jennifer Garner being just a plus one of Ben Affleck last night, she’s definitely a top notch plus one. Her golden Oscar dela Renta gown might be the lucky charm for her husband’s ensemble win.

naomi watts

05. NAOMI WATTS in Marchesa

Best Actress nominee Naomi Watts was perfect in this Marchesa outfit that she partnered with soft curls and bright lipstick. She perfectly showed the soft and tender looks that made her look every inch a star.

nicole kidman

04. NICOLE KIDMAN in Vivienne Westwood

The two time nominee tonight who was Keithless was also giving early circa 2000s fierceness in this Vivienne Westwood creation that showed a slit and her current favorite trend: see throughs. Her shorter flat hair can be a hit or miss, but she handles it just like a real movie star.

jennifer lawrence

03. JENNIFER LAWRENCE in Christian Dior

Tonight’s Best Actress winner was about to skip the ceremonies due to pneumonia. Good thing that did not happen as we would have missed the opportunity to see her rock this dark blue Christian Dior gown she wore.

marion cotillard

02. MARION COTILLARD in Dior Haute Couture

It’s such a shame that Cotillard missed the Best Actress Oscar nod, as we could have seen more of how she slay the red carpet just like how she did with this blue and white combo of this Dior Haute Couture creation. Plus point to the new short bob do also fits her perfectly.

jessica chastain

01. JESSICA CHASTAIN in Alexander McQueen

And despite her not winning Best Actress tonight, Jessica Chastain tops my list of the best dressed in this fiery red Alexander McQueen that she sported. It was simple but less is definitely more as it highlighted her youthful beauty. Incidentally, Jessica Chastain also topped my SAG best dressed list last year so maybe a three-peat next year?

Best Dressed List at the 18th Screen Actors Guild Awards   Leave a comment

Pretty meh red carpet, but here are 15 ladies who managed to stand out at this year’s event:

15. MELISSA McCARTHY in Badgley Mischka

Who said you need to have an hour glass figure just to be on the best dressed list? Best Supporting Actress nominee Melissa McCarthy doesn’t need that and she looks mighty fine in her Badgley Mischka dress that night.

14. SOFIA VERGARA in Marchesa

It’s very difficult to follow up that winning Golden Globe look, but Sofia Vergara did not disappoint with a pink Marchesa dress and matching accessories to boot.

13. LEA MICHELE in Versace

She’s been trying so hard to give this vamp sexy look, and though the slit was very much attention grabbing, everything else from the laid back hair and this Versace gown still saved the overall look.

12. KALEY CUOCO in Romona Keveza

This design has been tried and tested may times (and even better before), but one can’t deny how Kaley Cuoco looks very ethereal and floating in this Romona Keveza creation.

11. ARIEL WINTER in Collette Dinnigan

Probably one of the few child actors who actually dress their age, Ariel Winter looks youthful yet topnotch in this dress made by Australian designer Collette Dinnigan.

10. VIOLA DAVIS in Marchesa

Not only did she take home the Best Actress trophy that night, but Viola Davis also took home top fashion honors in this Grecian inspired Marchesa outfit.

9. DIANE LANE in David Mesiter

Diane Lane did not fail to live up with her fashion that night as the Best Actress in a TV Movie nominee looks regal and classy in her blue David Meister gown.

8. NAYA RIVERA in Naeem Khan

Who ever said that only blonde could become bombshells clearly hasn’t seen Naya Rivera’s sexy and seductive SAG look. All thanks to her Naeem Khan dress.

7. KYRA SEDGWICK in Emilio Pucci

The Closer star is really closer to the best dressed list this year as her Emilio Pucci gown (and her new tattoo) were clearly on top notch display that night.

6. DIANNA AGRON in Carolina Herrera

Dianna Agron totally redeemed herself from the red origami inspired Golden Globe dress she wore two weeks ago with this sexy and memorable pink Carolina Herrera gown she wore this year.

05. EMILY BLUNT in Oscar dela Renta

Another case of a dress that has been done many times already, this Oscar dela Renta creation still made the list because 1. green looks good on a SAG red carpet (remember Christina Applegate three years ago and Lea Michele two years ago)., and 2. this is Emily Blunt we’re talking about.

04. ANGELINA JOLIE in Jenny Packham

Her Golden Globe dress might be a hit or miss for many people, but majority loved this Jenny Packham black ensemble that Jolie wore last night. Don’t you dare tell me you did not think of a sexy vamp when you saw her.

03. TILDA SWINTON in Lanvin

Tilda plays the White Queen in and out of the screen, as she does another top notch collaboration with Lanvin for this year’s SAG awards. No one can play the icy queen persona more than La Tilda.

02. EMMA STONE in Alexander McQueen

Short or long, Emma Stone can make them all look flair, as she made another memorable fashion statement in this Alexander McQueen dress.

01. JESSICA CHASTAIN in Calvin Klein

And this year’s SAG winner is none other than Supporting Actress nominee Jessica Chastain who pushed all the right buttons in this blue Calvin Klein creation that she effortlessly pulled off. Her matching earrings played a factor as well, I guess.

Anyway, who are your own choices for Best Dressed this year? Pipe them here in the Comments section. 🙂

25 Best Red Carpet Looks of 2011   2 comments

After my 10 Best Local Shows of 2011, here’s another of those year end lists.  This year, we’ve seen lots of golden red carpet sightings from the Golden Globes to the SAGs, Grammys, BAFTAs, Oscars, and Emmys. There were also lots of fashion highlights from different red carpet premieres this year. And though we don’t get an Elizabeth Hurley pin dress, Halle Berry’s red Oscar gown, or Penelope’s pink ostrich ensemble, here are 25 Red carpet looks that got a yay in my book:

25. LEA MICHELE in Escada at the Met Gala Awards

Lea’s known for her very dramatic long trains as what she wore at this January’s Golden Globes, but she managed to stay away from that and maintained a slick, mature look at this year’s Met Gala Awards in this red Escada gown.

24. MARTHA PLIMPTON in Zac Posen at the Primetime Emmy Awards

Raising Hope star Martha Plimpton might not have won the Emmy this year (Melissa McCarthy did), but she’s an instant winner that night in this sparkling red Zac Posen creation at the Primetime Emmy Awards last September.

23. CLAIRE DANES in Louis Vuitton at the Screen Actors Guild Awards

Claire Danes has a banner year this year winning trophies for her performance in Temple Grandin, but her blue floral Louis Vuitton icy queen look at the SAG awards last March is another winning performance fashion-wise.

22. ANNETTE BENING in Marchesa at the BAFTA Awards

Annette Bening might have played a lesbo in her Oscar nominated performance in The Kids Are All Right earlier this year, but her red carpet appearances have been nothing but very womanly, just like this ethereal look she had in this white gown at the BAFTAs.

21. TINA FEY in Oscar dela Renta at the Screen Actors Guild Awards

For funny woman Tina Fey, it is very rare that we see her not wearing a black or dark colored gown. So it’s a breath of fresh air when she stepped out in this red Oscar dela Renta creation at January’s SAG Awards. See Tina, wearing something outside of dark colors won’t make you look laughable.

20. EVAN RACHEL WOOD in Elie Saab at the Primetime Emmy Awards

Nominated for her role as Kate Winslet’s rebellious daughter in Mildred Pierce, I don’t see anyone who’ll rebel with the notion that this sparkling black Elie Saab outfit that Evan Rachel Wood at the Emmys is one of the year’s red carpet highlights.

19. ZHANG ZIYI in Christian Dior at the Rome premiere of Love for Life

Zhang Ziyi does well with ball gowns, as proven by her memorable yellow Golden Globe dress in 2005. Here’s another that you can add to the list: her blue Christian Dior dress at the Love for Life premiere in Rome.

18. CATE BLANCHETT in Givenchy at the Academy Awards

Blanchett is probably known as one of the best dressed actresses of her generation. While this dress is very much polarizing, I think she has earned her spot in this list for the white Givenchy ensemble she sported at the Oscars last March.

17. ROSIE HUNTINGTON-WHITELEY in Naeem Khan at the Berlin premiere of Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Replacing Megan Fox is a very big task to do, but Rosie Huntington-Whiteley seems to be up for the challenge. Her silver sparkling outfit at the Berlin Transformers premiere definitely sealed the deal. Megan who?

16. OLIVIA WILDE in Marchesa at the Golden Globes

One of the most fashionable young actresses we have, Olivia Wilde surprises everyone with each of her red carpet looks this year. This includes her show stopping dress at last January’s Golden Globes.

15. HAILEE STEINFELD in Prada at the Screen Actors Guild Awards

Steinfeld gets my props for bringing something new to the table with each red carpet appearance, but her colorful SAG outfit gets the most points as it showcased her dressing by her age perfectly. Well done, Hailee!

14. EMMA WATSON in Oscar dela Renta at the London premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

We’ve seen Emma Watson since her early Hermione days, but this Oscar dela Renta gown that she wore at the London premiere last July is probably her all time best red carpet look.

13. CATHERINE ZETA JONES in Monique Lhuillier at the Golden Globe Awards

Lots of personal issues came both Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones this year, but none of that were transparent once Catherine strutted in this moss green Monique Lhullier creation at the Globes. here’s hoping that the next time Zeta wore one of her creations, she better know the pronunciation of her name.

12. GWEN STEFANI in L.A.M.B at the Cannes Film Festival

Gwen Stefani is probably one of the most fashionable women on earth. And isn’t this amazing that this amazing look she had at the Cannes came from her own creation and design L.A.M.B? Gwen does them all in one, yet she still looks every inch amazing.

11. EMMA STONE in Lanvin at the Met Costume Gala

Blonde Emma is not the Emma Stone that I prefer, but she’s so sass and chic here in this Lanvin gown she wore at the Met Gala Ball. I’d give her an easy A for Awesome.

10. ANGELINA JOLIE in Versace at the Cannes Film Festival

Angelina Jolie has a very good fashion history with Cannes. Remember the green dress when she was pregnant? How about the yellow one? Now, you can add this chocolate Versace gown to her historic Cannes red carpet moments.

9. NINA DOBREV in Donna Karan at the Primetime Emmy Awards

Nina Dobrev might be too shallow for the Primetime Emmy’s taste, but she’s doing it like a pro in her red Donna Karan ensemble that she wore last September. Too bad she wasn’t able to grace the stage that night, so that the world can see her best dressed look.

8. MILA KUNIS in Vera Wang at the Golden Globe Awards

Green was the highlight of this year’s Globes with everyone from Christina Hendricks to Angelina Jolie to Catherine Zeta Jones all glamming up this earthy color. Mila Kunis takes the cake though, in this asymmetrical one shoulder Vera Wang creation.

7. BEYONCE in Lanvin at the MTV Video Music Awards

Beyonce surely knows how to make a baby announcement. By wearing this orange Lanvin gown at the VMAs this year, Beyonce just let the whole world know that she is pregnant in the most fashionable way.

6. JENNIFER LAWRENCE in Calvin Klein at the Academy Awards

This fashion statement has been said many times already, but there’s something about Oscar Best Actress nominee Jennifer Lawrence that made this a striking and memorable outfit for this year.

5. TILDA SWINTON in Haider Ackermann at the Cannes Film Festival

Blue is my favorite color. Period. Now, seeing Tilda Swinton rock this blue Haider Ackermann gown at the Cannes Film Festival, I’m pretty sure that everyone’s thinking “We need to talk about Tilda.”

4. BLAKE LIVELY in Chanel at the Met Gala Institute

Blake Lively is definitely one of the world’s sexiest women. Nude photos or not, one can’t help but be interested when she keeps on sporting this fabulous looks such as this Chanel outfit at the Met Gala Institute. This is what you’ve been missing, Leo.

3. NICOLE KIDMAN in Jean Paul Gaultier at the Grammy Awards

The Grammys might be music’s biggest honor, but fashion wise, it was Nicole Kidman who wowed the event in this Jean Paul Gaultier creation. Hands down, her best red carpet look in years!

2. REESE WITHERSPOON in Armani Prive at the Academy Awards

Reese opted for the classic black with a hint of white in this Armani Prive dress she wore at the Oscars. Add the Julia Roberts hair do, and then you have a memorable Oscar look.

1. ANNE HATHAWAY in Armani Prive at the Golden Globe Awards

And Armani Prive does a back to back. Her hosting stint at the Oscar might have fizzled, but Anne sizzled in her Golden Globe backless look which is my top red carpet moment of 2011.

FASHION REVIEW: 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards   Leave a comment

Wow, TV’s biggest night is officially over. As we say hello the the new TV season (and goodbye to the previous one), the Emmys are the perfect transition from the former to the latter. I managed to do well with my predictions (15/25, then 20/25 if you count spoilers). I also won the Goldderby Emmy Prediction game! Yay for me! Anyway, here is my mandatory annual fashion recap. Last year, Dianna Agron was my top choice for Best Dressed. Let’s take a look at those who stand out from the red carpet for this year!

16. Kristin Wiig in Zac Posen

Wiig’s chocolate brown dress with a very plunging neckline is a very big improvement from her past two Emmy dresses. For once, she finally dresses like a movie star.

15. Sarah Hyland in Christian Siriano

Hyland who’s inside a brawling controversy (with Lea Michele’s fans) still looked awesome in this coral ensemble reminiscent of her “older sister”‘ Mila Kunis’s SAG dress.

14. Kate Winslet in Elie Saab

Winslet’s dress has a been-there-done-that feel and is reminiscent of her blue SAG dress in 2009. However, she still looks every inch a movie star in this red Elie Saab ensemble.

13. Cat Deeley in Monique Lhuillier

The Emmy nominee matches her dress with a messy do which compliments the patterns of this beautiful Monique Lhuillier creation.

12. Jennifer Carpenter in Tony Ward

First year after her divorce with co-star Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter sizzles the red carpet with a Tony Ward dress that highlight that leg of hers.

11. Aubrey Plaza in Juan Carlos Obando

Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza channels old school Hollywood in this white Juan Carlos Obando dress that is something that April Ludgate will never wear.

10. Christine Baranski in Zac Posen

After wearing a tux last year, Baranski plays more with her feminine side wearing this elegant Zac Posen outfit that is fit for an Emmy winner.

9. Gwyneth Paltrow in Pucci

This year’s winner of the love-it-ot-jhate-it award, I’m impressed by Gwyneth’s Pucci choice that works well in a laid back ceremony such as the Emmys.

8. Mireille Enos in Zuhair Murad

Enos took the time to change her sweaters and move on with this red Zuhair Murad ensemble that made her look like a TV star of her own rights.

7. Lea Michele in Marchesa

Sporting a new bangs and looking slick as ever, Lea Michele actually looks a lot better if she stays away from the train dresses she love to wear. This red Marchesa dress is a good example.

6. Connie Britton in Maria Lucia Hohan

Best Actress nominee Connie Britton shies away from her housewife role and is vavavoom in this red gown that impressively shows all her assets.

5. Anna Torv in Vera Wang

Looking like a combination of Cate Blanchett and Kate Hudson, Anna Torv’s black Vera Wang outfit looks very good on her. She could have chosen a better shoes, but I wouldn’t complain much.

4. Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan

Dobrev’s dress might be too busy for others but I guess that the overall aim of the dress is to highlight her figures, which it successfully showed.

3. Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab

Another one channeling old school Hollywood is Evan Rachel Wood who’s sporting a shorter do and is literally a glowing figure in this Elie Saab ensemble.

2. Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang

For once, Sofia did not resort to showing her cleavage and still looked every inch sexy in this coral Vera Wang dress.

1. Martha Plimpton in Zac Posen

And my choice for this year’s Best Dressed is Martha Plimpton. This shining shimmering red Zac Posen gown she wore will not give you any hint that she plays a white trash on a Greg Garcia show. LOL.

Now, who are your choices? I’d love to hear it. 🙂
